How much do you spend on your IT assets and infrastructure? Do you know? Do you really know? Is it the right amount? Are you getting great value for the money you are spending? Are you capturing your true costs? Can you budget with the information you have? How much is capital, how much is operating? Ok, that was easy – how much of operating was maintenance (a result of change and growth) and how much is support (something broke and needs to be fixed)? That’s a little more difficult.
Logical Developments has been collecting technical service related data in detail since 1996. As an outgrowth of providing strategic consulting services and in helping to develop future fiscal Information Technology budgets for businesses and governments, we have determined that our database is the most detailed of any support organization available and has the critical mass to provide advanced statistic information to help guide our long-term and highly-valued customers. This is a small sample of the valuable information provided. This table shows the aggregate spending by year, appearing in two differing views. In other charts, this is shown based against the growth in LAN population as the size of the systems increased, to understand “costs per seat” versus overall costs.
This chart shows the total spending allocation for the site. Additional matching versions are provided for each year, making trends, transitions and changes simple to spot.
To further highlight trends, graphs-over-time are used to showcase changes and time-driven events, to determine if technological investments are determined by season, fiscal timing or other reasons. This can be used to predict cash requirements for upgrades or re-licensing.
